One of the most distinguished Privateers of the War of 1812, Prince de Neufchatel, a superb 310 ton Brigantine, was built by Christian Bergh in 1812-1813. She was armed with 16 twelve pound carronades and 2 long eighteens for chase guns. She sailed with a crew of 150, Captained by J. Ordonaux of New York.
Model Shipways' Prince De Neufchatel uses high quality laser-cut basswood for the one-piece keel, and walnut for the stern, rudder windlass supports, gun carriages, and mastcap. The 22 bulkheads are laser-cut from high grade plywood. The hull is double planked, first with flexible basswood, and then with a layer of rich walnut. Channels & railing, deadeyes, and single and double blocks are also made from walnut. Ornamental wood strips are laser-cut.
Black standard rigging & grey running rigging is supplied in 4 diameters of each. Britannia metal fittings are of accurate scale and detail, including galley stack and two-horned cleats. Sixteen turned brass carronades are made specially for the Prince. The rudder, spar bands, pumps, and eyebolts are also of brass. The gunport lid hinges are copper. A basswood launchway completes your fantastically detailed replica.
